The Clinton River
The Clinton, which flows into the very head of Lake Te Anau, is one of Fiordland's most famous trout fishing rivers. The river shares its
glacially formed valley with the first half of the Milford Track.
The Clinton is a large river in its lower reaches, with pool after deep pool holding very good numbers of brown and rainbow trout. Water
depth can be difficult to gauge due to its tremendous clarity and the decision to wade this river must be taken carefully.
Whilst the Clinton has been described as a fly angler's paradise, the spin angler has
ample opportunity too, but the Clinton trout, especially the browns, are extremely wily.
